At the end of July 2017, Hyde County ordered mandatory visitor evacuations to Hatteras & Ocracoke Island. Businesses were devastated as were thousands of vacationers. People from all over the country visit the beautiful Outer Banks and now their vacation has been really screwed up or completely ruined. Some people are searching for last minute Topsail Island vacation rentals.
Unfortunately, getting a place at Topsail Island this late in the game just isn’t going to happen. Which is a shame, as I like Topsail much better than the OBX.
I would personally recommend that if you are reading this and looking for an alternative that you look at Myrtle Beach, which still has some oceanfront availability, at least during the week. Expect to pay 250-350/night for a hotel room.
Another alternative would be to go West. The NC mountains are cooler than the beach and offer some great hiking. There’s no beach but you can take a dip in the cool mountain water. Brevard is a very chill vacation spot. Some people like the more crowded Asheville. Hendersonville is awesome in a couple of months when the apples are ready. If you go to Brevard you can take a trip to Linville and check out the caves. You could also go up North of Brevard and visit sliding rock for an hour or so. There are horse rides which are a lot of fun and trout ponds where everyone is guaranteed to catch something.
